February Meeting

We had a very fun filled, inspiring February meeting. Judy Snider came and brought 25 beautiful quilts that she made. She also came representing Bonnie Hunter's trunk show which will be held in Jackson, TN on March 5, 2011 At the Holiday Inn. It is call Peace by Piece and is sponsored by the Jackson Quilt Guild. This will be a treat for me because I have been using several of Bonnie Hunter's quilt patterns from her website quiltville.com. On this post I am sharing the quilts that Judy brought, we oooohed and awwwwed and was inspired to go home and get busy. Here are some of Judy's quilts.

Quilt Show News

Well, here we are at the quilt show in Paducah with our "loud" jackets and hats on. I saw a jacket pattern that I just had to have, so that has been ordered. Then we were in the midst of a big crowd at Hancock's of Paducah. I know the manager was counting his "big" bucks because there was a lot of spending in that store.On the way home we stopped at Walmart and was told by a gentleman that we were in the wrong town. With our loud jackets and hats on we laughed and told him we had been to the Paducah quilt show. He was about to redirect us back to the quilt town. We laughed all the way home.

One of the pictures here shows the back of a jacket that had a beautiful design, so I asked permission to take a picture. There was another pattern that I purchased online that I saw at the Civic center....cannot wait to make it.

Well, that is it! Hope to go again next year.!

Jelly Rolls by Jean Liddle

Have you tried Jelly Rolls (also called Bali Pops, Stripz, Worms, etc by different manufacturers) these are pre-cut 2.5 inch strips by width of fabric sold in sets, usually a line of fabric in a set of around 40 strips. There are many patterns to be found that use these - in magazines, sold specifically for this purpose, whole books and free on the internet.

If you want to do a fast fun quilt try using one of these sets - you would not believe how fast they go together :) Having precut, matching fabrics is great. However, if you terribly frugal like many of us you can make your own strip sets. Since I have found out how much these quilts are I have started cutting 2.5 inch strips from each of my fabrics that I get out to cut from and put them in a drawer - thus having a "stash" of strips for when the mood strikes me.
